The Dying of the Light

As the nights close in regular bike commuters will be thinking about their visibility.  I thought I was fine with my new lights, but a colleague this morning who overtook me in a car said I’d been hard to see in the gloom.

I don’t much like having to dress up to be seen, but it’s one of those situations where the stakes are rather high.  I  experimented tonight with a spare pannier which has a bright yellow raincover. Going out to a dark bit of road I used the flash to simulate car headlights:

This looks pretty good to me, but perhaps I’ll get a family member to drive along behind me and see how bright I appear in genuine headlights.
